Softball Super Series
Softball Super Series #4 – 2024
Below are some key points suggested by the respondents and the new rules and conduct of the Series.
The 2024 schedule is and includes double round robin format:
- Sunday 13th October 2024 - Logan City
- Sunday 24th November 2024- Redlands
- Sunday 1st December 2024 (finals)- Brisbane
- Sunday 8th December 2024 washout date

- Sunday 1st December 2024 - Brisbane- Round Two
- Sunday 8th December 2024 - Redlands - Finals
Plans are to have four (4) teams in both men’s and women’s divisions. The age group will rbe 14-17years. SQI encourages all players in this age group to consider nominating in 2024.
Several rule enhancements were suggested, however there were too many to summarise here. Rules that attracted most attention though included:
• Power plays:
o preventing use of them in the 7th innings
o management of it by the coach to the umpire for tracking use
o consider calling them something different to reduce confusion
o increasing/decreasing the number available to use
o improve knowledge of power plays by all officials
Rules for 2022
- From the top of the 2nd innings, teams will commence with a runner on first base.
- From the top of the 3rd innings, teams will commence with a runner on second base.
- From the top of the 4th innings, teams will commence with a runner on third base.
- From the top of the 5th innings, teams will commence with a runner on first and second base
- From the top of the 6th innings, teams will commence with a runner on first, second and third base
Power Play changes includes:
- No Power Play will be played in the 1st and 7th innings.
- Power Plays cannot be played in back to back innings.
The SSS format was commented on regularly by all respondents and described as exciting, challenging, competitive and fast paced.
2024 Team Annoucement
11. PLAYING RULES – General
11.1 All games shall be played in accordance with the current Softball Australia Rules as adopted by Softball Queensland unless otherwise specified hereafter.
11.2 All games shall commence at the time specified in the draw unless delayed by the previous game. A minimum of thirty (30) minutes shall be allowed between double-header games.
11.3 Any team that does not have the required number of players to begin or continue a game will forfeit to the non‑offending team.
11.4 Determination of Home and Away will be pre-determined by the Softball Super Series Committee and the draw will posted as Home Team, Away Team
11.5 Temporary Runner for the Catcher and Pitcher: when there are two (2) out and the catcher and or pitcher is a baserunner, any player listed on the line-up (includes bench players) may replace the catcher and or pitcher.
11.6 Runners Starting Position per innings
11.6.1 From the top of the 2nd innings, teams will commence with a runner on first base.
11.6.2 From the top of the 3rd innings, teams will commence with a runner on second base.
11.6.3 From the top of the 4th innings, teams will commence with a runner on third base.
11.6.4 From the top of the 5th innings, teams will commence with runners on first and second base.
11.6.5 From the top of the 6th innings, teams will commence with runners on first, second and third base.

11.7 A Double play will close the innings.
11.8 Power Play
11.8.1 The Power Play occurs when each batter commences their start of bat with the count of strike two (2).
11.8.2 The Power Play is reported through the plate umpire and announced at the change of innings.
11.8.3 No Power Play will be played in the 1st and 7th innings.
11.8.4 Power Plays cannot be played in back-to-back innings.
11.8.5 Two (2) power plays can be taken per game.
11.8.6 No penalty applies if the Power Plays is not taken.
11.9 International Base on Balls will NOT be played.
12. PLAYING RULES
12.1 Games in the round (s) of fixtures shall be limited to a regulation game or a time limit of
one-and-a-half- hours except that once an innings has commenced it must be completed.
12.3 Games in the Final series shall be played out. If after the completion of seven (7) innings of play the score is tied, the tie breaker shall be played to determine a winning team.
12.4 Metal cleats are permitted in Softball Super Series.
